On Saturday Feb 18th, the St Andrews Surgical Society welcomed delegates to the first ever Global Surgery conference in St Andrews.  The day was a success, featuring keynote speaker Prof Eric Borgstein on pediatric surgery in Africa, Dr. Natasha Burley on “Everest ER,” and Miss Caris Grimes on research developments in humanitarian surgery.  Lunchtime provided opportunities to browse several fantastic research posters by St Andrews medical students, with topics ranging from plastics to neurosurgery.  In the afternoon, delegates were treated to interactive workshops- catheterisation, surgical scrub, wound closure and trauma C-spine.  Overall, the day was a massive success.  We would like to thank Dr Davies and Dr Harrison for judging the research, and all those involved in the organization. Look out for what we come up with next year!
