Kiosk compilation

Kiosk compilation

This video is a compilation of some of our previous trails and readings I put together for use on the Poems for Doctors video kiosk. In case you can’t get to SPL in Edinburgh, which is where the kiosk is just now, I thought I’d include it here. It features trails and complete readings of five poems. Total duration is 11m 48s.

I’ve been editing away on Season 4’s readings this afternoon. Six almost ready, a couple more yet to film!

Kiosk on the road…

Kiosk on the road…

Hi! Sorry no posts for a little while, I’m still busy working on material for Season 4 of Poems for Doctors online.

Our video kiosk in its new “monitor supporting” configuration is currently living at the Scottish Poetry Library. I made a new video loop for it with a ‘greatest hits’ selection (actually it’s very hard to choose) which I’m going to try and post for you in the next day or two.

Thanks to Samuel Tongue for the photos.

Poems for Doctors Online Poetry Slam Prizes

Poems for Doctors Online Poetry Slam Prizes

Prof John Zajicek, Course Director for BSc Medical Science at the University of St Andrews, with prize winner Rumaisa Zubairia from Glasgow University School of Medicine at Stanza 2019.

Winner and runner-up prizes in the Poems for Doctors Online Poetry Slam were announced last night at the Stanza International Poetry Festival launch event, at the Byre Theatre in St Andrews. After judges and poll results were combined the runner-up was Rania Fernandes a student the University of Dundee Medical School for her poem ‘Inspiration’, and the winner was Rumaisa Zubairi who is studying at the University of Glasgow School of Medicine. Rumaisa performed her winning poem ‘Fexor digitorum’ at last night’s event.

Congratulations to our winners of course, but also to all of those who took part in the competition. Our judges were highly impressed by the standard of entries, and we hope that all the competitors will continue to explore and develop their interests in poetry.

The competition readings will remain available online on the slam page at https://medicine.st-andrews.ac.uk/poemsfordoctors/slam-readings/

Next up for the project – starting work on preparing Season 4 of Poems for Doctors Online. (Steve: ‘I think this time I’m going to be on the road … watch this space!’)

Beannacht/Blessing

Beannacht/Blessing

This poem is part of the Poems for doctors project. You can find out more about the project here.

This the last reading in the current season of Poems for Doctors.

‘Beannacht’ (in the title) is Irish Gaelic. If you’d like to listen to pronunciation(s), please check: https://www.focloir.ie/en/dictionary/ei/Blessing

Whatever your interest here – whether you’re a working in health care over the holiday season, or a patient or a relative worried about what happens next, or just a human caught up in some seasonal glancing, thinking back and peering ahead – this reading has something generous to offer.

Best wishes for a peaceful and Happy Christmas to all.
